As parents and grandparents, we all want to spend quality time with our kids. But sometimes it’s hard to come up with fun activities that don’t involve screens or don’t cost a fortune. If you’re looking for something creative and fun, why not try some cardboard craft projects with your kids? Here are five ideas to get you started!
Dollhouse or Action Figure Castle: One awesome way to let your kid’s imagination soar is by building a dollhouse or castle out of cardboard boxes. You can use different sizes of boxes and have your child decorate them with paint, markers, or stickers. Then they can add furniture and accessories using recycled materials like empty cereal boxes and paper towel tubes. The best part about this project is that it can be adapted as your child grows—you can start with a simple house, then add rooms and features as their skills develop.
Carnival Games: Everyone loves carnival games! Create an indoor carnival for your kids by making games like ring toss out of cardboard. You can also make beanbag tosses, pinball machines, fishing games, or any other game you can think of. Your littles ones will love competing against each other (or against the grown-ups!) in these fun challenges.
Robot Costume: Does your little one love robots? Help them bring their robot dreams to life by making a robot costume out of cardboard boxes! All you need are some large boxes (cereal boxes work great) and some tape. Have your child help design their robot costume—they can draw on the box in marker or paint designs on it before assembling it into a robot shape with tape and scissors. This is sure to be an activity they won't forget anytime soon!
Marble Run: A marble run is always a hit at any birthday party! To make one without breaking the bank, just grab some empty cereal boxes, scissors, duct tape (or hot glue), marbles and paint pens (optional). Cut slots into the cereal boxes for the marbles to go through, then assemble them together using tape or glue until you have created a track from start to finish. Add obstacles like tunnels and jumps along the way if desired—and don’t forget to let the kids decorate their track as well!
Music Instruments: Make music together as a family by creating musical instruments out of cardboard boxes! Start simple with drums made from oatmeal containers—just cut two small holes on opposite sides for drumsticks made out of dowels or pencils—then move onto more advanced instruments such as guitars made from shoe boxes or xylophones made from paper towel tubes filled with different levels of water so they produce different notes when tapped on.
With these five ideas in hand, you'll have plenty of fun activities that will keep your kids entertained for hours - all while teaching them valuable skills such as problem solving, creativity, cooperation and collaboration - without costing too much money either! So grab some cardboard boxes today and let the crafting begin.
